The task was to create a ‘Dead Simple’ video playback ‘brick’. Something with power going in and HDMI coming out. When plugged in, it would automatically start playing back the videos loaded on it. At the time, similar products were a few hundred dollars and I needed 8 of them to each run large video displays for an event in Nashville for about 300+ party goers.
Using a Raspberry Pi Zero with a custom OS image I was able to design a simple snap enclosure that would allow the devices to be built for less than $60 each.
